Australia Awards in Indonesia currently opens the applications for the Mainstreaming GEDSI in Indonesia’s Energy Transition Short Course. The course focuses on applying the gender equality, disability and social inclusion (GEDSI) lens to Indonesia’s energy transition roadmaps and energy policies.
The course will discuss the nexus between GEDSI and energy transition; consider the principles of a “just” transition and its importance in the Indonesian context; identify stakeholders, gaps and challenges in the energy transition; consider the policy options for government, including through state-owned enterprises; and considers operational frameworks, guidelines, and toolkits necessary for mainstreaming GEDSI in energy policy. The course will also draw upon Australia’s and international best practices on the just energy transition policies and initiatives and provide networking opportunities with Australian counterparts.
Learning objectives
The course will help participants to:
· reflect on the intersection of global energy pathways with key Indonesian policy areas,
· explore the nexus between GEDSI and energy transition,
· consider the policy options for government (including state-owned enterprises) and operational frameworks, guidelines, and toolkits necessary for mainstreaming GEDSI in energy policy – identify best practices for mainstreaming GEDSI regionally and globally,
· identify stakeholders, gaps and challenges in Indonesia’s just energy transition agenda,
· identify how the knowledge, perspectives, and experiences of vulnerable groups should be brought into energy policies and strategies,
· explore different approaches for collaborative efforts in managing the impacts of clean energy transition, including on GEDSI,
· build a coalition of champions and progressive leaders in Indonesia’s energy transition and establish networks with Australian institutions and experts for partnerships.
To achieve these learning outcomes, the proposed course offers a structured learning process by applying a range of learning methodologies: classroom sessions; case studies; site visits, discussion and planning sessions; simulations and role plays; networking events; and an individual or a small group project (Award Project). The Award Project model is used across all Australia Awards in Indonesia short courses. The course participants present the project plan at the pre-course workshop, further develop the project during the course in Australia and present the implemented project (rationale, objectives, steps, challenges, outcomes and next steps) at the post-course workshop.
The course will be delivered over a 2-week period in Australia in early June 2024 (possibly at the end of May). A pre-course workshop will be held in Indonesia at the end of April or early May 2024. A post-course workshop will be held in Indonesia in October 2024, or approximately three months after the completion of the in-Australia course.
